After only a 100-year+ hiatus, Cripple Creek Brewing has re-introduced the sodas that made them the hit of old Cripple Creek, Colorado in 1893.

Family tradition has it that Frank J. Wisner (Chicago-born, and great grand uncle of present day owner Mike Lynn) originally created the sodas to support his ill-fated mining adventures on Cow Mountain. Myers Avenue Red root beer (w/cinnamon), Dream Lode Golden ginger ale (w/real ginger) and Celon’s Mythical crème soda (w/almonds) were Uncle Frank’s original creations…and “the favorite of miner, madam and minister alike”.

But the creation of the America's favorite root beer and ice cream concoction, the black cow, is Uncle Frank’s greatest, albeit unheralded (till now!) contribution to popular culture.

A moonlit, snow-capped Cow Mountain sparked Uncle Frank’s imagination, reminding him of a big scoop of vanilla ice cream “floating on top of a black, Cow Mountain” according to the story passed down the generations. And, while the idea of floating the ice cream on top of his popular Myers Avenue Red root beer was pure entrepreneurial genius, the long-forgotten convoluted name he came up with was replaced by the local’s nick-name for it - black cows .

Now that Cripple Creek Brewing is back, re-creating the flavors that were so popular over 100 years ago, enjoy “America’s Original Premium Sodas”™…and the best black cow you’ve ever had.

Taste the halcyon days of old Cripple Creek, Colorado, “The World’s Greatest Gold Camp” in every bottle of MYERS AVENUE RED root beer, DREAM LODE GOLDEN ginger ale and CELON’S MYTHICAL crème soda!
